Capital Grid 230kV Project

The Capital Grid Project is PEPCO’s largest underground transmission project to date. CW & Sons’ is proud to support five miles of the 10-mile 230kv project. CW & Sons portion includes installation of twenty-eight (28) manholes with and inner dimensions of 7-ft x 28-ft. within the jurisdiction of DC (DDOT). This project features a portion through the National Mall (NPS) and the Architect of the Capitol which required additional coordination and stakeholder outreach. The duct bank construction includes excavations up to 25 feet deep and over 1800 linear feet of trenchless excavation via. box tunnels. This works involves over 60,000 cubic yards of excavation and over 390,000 feet of PVC conduit installed. This project helps Pepco create a networked transmission system through the District of Columbia and enhance the reliability and resiliency of the Capital region.
